Mission

Our mission at The Latina Physio is to build a healthier community of Spanish and English speakers by improving access to quality physical therapy. We offer pelvic health & orthopedic wellness workshops for organizations as well as one-on-one patient care.

History

During her doctorate studies at the University of Southern California, Dr. Karina Ortiz PT, DPT noticed a lack of physical therapy education, primarily affecting the health of Spanish speaking communities. She knew she wanted to address this barrier, which is why she created The Latina Physio. Since then, Karina has taken advanced-level specialty coursework in Pelvic Health in order to help patients live a fulfilling life. She received two federal grants which enabled her to establish the first pelvic floor physical therapy clinic for military veterans within 75 miles of Martinez, CA. Through this clinic, she has been able to help over 200 veterans heal from pelvic floor dysfunction. She has also been a keynote speaker at the 2022 and 2023 CalVet & VA Northern California's Women Veterans Health and Wellness Retreat.
Karina is able to assess and treat the entire body to help patients heal from joint pains, muscle aches, orthopedic or genitourinary surgeries, urinary and/or fecal incontinence, urgency and/or frequency, pain with intercourse, pelvic pain, etc. Karina is available for pelvic health & orthopedic wellness workshops as well as one-on-one care in both Spanish and English to help build stronger, healthier, and fruitful communities.

why The Latina Physio?

The short answer is because this name best aligns with her mission.
The long answer is:
  1. Karina is proud to be Latina, is connected to her Mexican roots, and is the go-to physical therapist for her community. She wants her community to know she can offer her services in either English, Spanish, or both.
  2. Physio because it is short for physiotherapist, which is internationally recognized, and also phonetically equal to fisio, which is short for fisioterapeuta, the Spanish word for Physical Therapist.
Karina is proud to serve all genders and people from all backgrounds.
